Doing My Twitch Affiliate Push!
And the start of a gaming blog?
Twitch streaming is my new obsession. I love playing video games and I was fascinated by the idea of streaming from the moment I found out about it.
But it hasn’t been instant gratification. I’m hoping it will turn into a nice little side gig, though.
How I Started With Twitch
In the summers we spend a lot of time at the lake. We have an RV permanently parked in a seasonal lot and it costs a fair amount of money to keep it there so my partner (who is retired) likes to spend as much time as possible there. I work though, so 3 days a week I am by myself at the house in the city.
One night I was playing a game on Switch, in bed, and I needed some external stimulation. Normally, I’d just put a movie on Netflix or Prime but I couldn’t find anything I wanted to watch. I was on the homescreen and Twitch was an app suggestion. I didn’t even have a Twitch account at the time!
Shortly after that, I did have a Twitch account! It was easy and it didn’t take long for me to find a streamer playing a game I liked — Stray. The streamer was having hard time finding Seamus and I knew exactly where he was. I joined the chat and asked if she wanted to find it herself or if she’d rather I told her.
I watched her stream for several hours that night. And she made me think about streaming myself.
And Now I’m Doing My Affiliate Push!
Thanks to this streamer and several others, I’ve been able to grow my following to 53 followers and I’m only 3 streams away from affiliate! These 3 streamers have advised me, encouraged me and sent followers my way in their streams and I am so appreciative of them.
I’m not under any illusions of making this a full-time income but if it can be a nice little side-gig that would be awesome. I love playing video games and I have a good time streaming so why not.
Gaming Chat On Medium
I haven’t been writing much on Medium. Well, at all really. I see my last post was a year ago. I kinda lost my writing mojo.
But I was thinking, maybe I could writing about my Twitch experience and the games I’m playing, as well as writing them. I could do reviews and tips and stuff like that.
Maybe that will help me start writing more regularly again.
I miss writing. I just haven’t had anything I wanted to write about until now.
