2 Important Factors to Building an Online Presence
Whether you are talking about building a blog or building engagement or building followers on a social network, there are two key points that are critical.
You need to give it time. You can’t build up a blog following and readership and you can’t get followers/likes/engagement overnight. Anyone who makes this promise to you is likely doing something sneaky like buying likes or sending fake traffic via traffic exchange sites. And that’s just a waste of money. I promise you that.
How much time it takes depends on how consistent you are about posting regularly and how consistent you are depends on how much time you have to dedicate to your project.
Let me give you an example.
Let’s say you have decided that Instagram is a great social network for your business. You’ve done the research and you’ve seen other businesses like yours getting lots of comments and likes on their Instagram posts. You’ve seen people asking questions about how they can get the products or which service would be best for their business. You’ve seen people asking about how they can email them for a consultation. And you’ve read articles about how businesses like yours are getting more sales, more traffic, more customers from using Instagram.
So, you start your Instagram account. You post some pictures for a couple days. You throw some hashtags in there. You follow some other Instagram accounts.
A few weeks later, you’ve added a couple more pictures when you have a chance, but your time is limited so it’s been pretty random. You’ve got some followers but not a load of them.
A month later, you’ve all but forgotten that you have the account and your followers rarely like or comment on your pictures so you’ve decided that it’s just not worth it.
Here’s the thing: you’re only a month into the project and you’re bored with it and you just don’t have time to post very often. So, no, you’re not getting good results.
In order to make Instagram work for your business, you need to do consistently add more pictures; you need to seek out the right hashtags to use to attract people that might actually be interested in your business, and you need to seek out people that buy the kinds of products or services that you offer.
Who has time for that?
Most businesses have other things that are higher on their priority list than social media or blogging. That’s because you know how to do those things that are higher on your productivity list and they get results for you. But if you were a professional at social media marketing, you’d know how to do that and get results, too.
So, instead of spending your valuable time learning how to do something new, you have another choice: hire someone.
